INTRODUCTION
The fleet keeper is a marine restoration company specializing in professional refinishing and repairs. Most of the projects can be done at your slip or at a guest berth in Alameda, or we can work in conjunction with the boat yard while hauled out. Regina Roberts is the owner and operator and has been in business since 1989.
DETAILS OF SERVICES OFFERED:
In developing and honing our crafts over the years, we have found 3 main principals to adhere by in order to achieve professional results:
1) always use the finest marine materials, from sandpaper to fasteners to paint.
2) Always have a keen eye for and don't overlook the details.
3) Prep, prep and more prep before applying the final product.
We use the best hand and power tools, including the Fein dust free sanders. We are careful environmentally not to pollute the water (or your neighbors' boat and marina docks) with scrapings, dust or harsh soaps. We have full liability insurance and all employees are covered by workers comp insurance.
We look at your boat as a fine piece of artwork and treat it as such. Please visit our photo gallery to see some examples of our work.
BRIGHTWORK:
Our flagship skill, we can restore and refinish your interior and exterior woodwork, bringing out the beauty locked in the wood. Finishes used include Pettit spar varnish, Bristol 2 part acrylic urethane and Cetol wood finish. Other appropriate marine finishes can be applied per owner's request. We can put you on a scheduled maintenance program so you know your finish is kept up.
PAINTING:
We specialize in brushing Sterling linear polyurethane, the finest marine paint available, topside at your slip. We do smooth gloss and nonskid exterior, as well as satin interior. Other marine paints such as Interlux, Z-Spar, etc can be applied. If you need your hull done, we can prep it for you (sand, fill, tape, paper) and have the yard spray it.
NON-SKID PAINTING:
Again preferably with Sterling LPU, we can repair cracked, worn, rough decks, fill as needed and roll and tip a new nonskid deck right at your berth. You will have a deck that is beautiful, easy to clean and last for years.
TEAK DECKS:
When the caulking starts to pull away from the teak joints due to age and/or frequent use of deck cleaners, and plugs pop off the fasteners, water can travel to the fiberglass or wood beams. Eventually this can cause interior leaks, loose deck boards and structural damage. We can remove the old caulk, reef the joints, refasten or replace loose boards, remove and countersink new fasteners, recaulk and sand. We can also remove decks that are too damaged to repair, fill and paint.
We can remove the old caulk, get the joints absolutely clean, lifts boards if needed and problem hasn't gone too far, remove, countersink and install new plugs and fasteners, recaulk and sand down, all at your slip. We can also rebed hatches, stantions, etc.
PORTLIGHTS AND WINDOWS:
If you have lights or windows leaking or are just old and tired looking, we can remove them and restore what is there, have the plexiglass duplicated or install entirely new units. Whatever your choice they will be leak proof, easy to use and beautiful to look thru.
HARDWARE INSTALLED AND REBEDDED:
The caulking and fasteners on stanchions eventually fails and is often a source of leaks. We can remove, even if the bolts are corroded in place, replace or restore as appropriate and recaulk. We can also do this on or install new T-tracks, solar vents, cowlings, chafe guards, hatches, etc.
LEAK AND WOOD REPAIRS:
It is not uncommon to have a leak in one place (i.e. mid-ship) and have the source be somewhere else (i.e. a forward stanchion or hatch). We can find the problems and repair. We can also fix or replace damaged boards as needed.
DETAILING:
Compound and waxing gelcoat, remove old names and vinyl striping, metal, plastic and izing glass polished, all with only the best marine products available.
